\“Profile wide\” is history
The Leinster Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association issued a statement this morning, concerning how the leg side wide regulation used by Cricket Leinster will be interpreted. The statement in full is as follows:
\"After consultation with players, umpires and other interested parties, the LCU&SA has announced that it will change its interpretation of the wide regulation, to return to the \"strict\" leg side policy that was last used in 2013.
In competitions in Leinster where the \"one day wide\" regulation was used last season (Division 1-4 and cups, as well as Women's Division 1 and Cups), a profile wide was used, whereby a delivery that would have hit the batsman had he stayed in his normal stance, was not called a wide.
This was felt to be generally unpopular with players and umpires alike, and for the 2015 season, all deliveries that pass down the leg side in competitions using this regulation will be called as a wide - even those that narrowly miss the leg stump.
Although the Women's Section has not yet published its regulations for 2015, the Open Competitions Committee has announced that all cricket down to Division 6 (and associated cups) will have a leg side wide in operation.\"
